Infrastructure

TenneT manages the infrastructure of the Netherlands from 110 kV and the cross border connections. Management means: ensuring that power transmission is possible over the high-voltage lines and substations under virtually all circumstances. In order to ensure this high level of availability, sophisticated maintenance and inspections are necessary. Effective consultation with the grid administrators and connected customers is necessary for the planning; the operational planning department of TenneT is responsible for this.

TenneT is constantly looking for ways of determining the condition of the installations without the need to switch them off for this purpose. In addition, maintenance programmes are drawn up for the longer term on the basis of the inspection data and the analyses of these. Everything is focussed on extending the maintenance intervals without infringing on the requirements regarding availability.

The supervisors, TenneT experts who operate throughout the country, also point out defects and assess whether these are serious. Their observations are very important for determining the quality of the equipment and often lead to adjustments in the maintenance philosophy.
