Runback

In order to be able, nevertheless, to connect new capacity, TenneT in 2006 has invented the ‘runback scenario’. By carrying out a number of investments in the new connection at an accelerated pace and by taking additional investments in the underlying 150 kV grid, it is nevertheless possible to connect these producers under certain conditions until the south-ring of the Randstad380 connection, running from Maasvlakte, via Westerlee and Wateringen to Bleiswijk, is ready. This makes it possible to transport up to maximum 2000 MW additional production under restricted conditions. The DTe (Office of Energy Regulation), has to give approval upon the possibility to use temporary solutions for the accelerated connection of other, new production initiatives.

About runback scenario

TenneT has examined the possibilities to enable connection of new production units nevertheless in those cases in which sufficient transmission capacity for the safe transport of production capacity is not always available.

  • The above has resulted in the development of the 'runback scenario'. The runback scenario means that operators of production units that are to be newly connected agree, among other things, to possible transmission restrictions.
  • TenneT has decided to offer the runback scenario to parties interested in a connection to the South Holland 380 kV grid as a temporary solution.
