Quality and capacity plan 2006-2012
13-04-2006
In the Quality and capacity plan, TenneT describes the demand for transmission capacity on the national high-voltage grid. The plan contains estimates of the required transmission capacity in the coming years and describes possible bottlenecks in the national transmission grid. In the plan, we describe the demand for transmission capacity using three extreme scenarios of the future.
The Quality and capacity plan is published once every two years.
Demand for transmission capacity
TenneT is charged with safeguarding the reliability of electricity supplies in the Netherlands (i.e. ensuring the security of supply). Interruptions in the power supply can have major consequences for society. That is why we have set the bar high: we want to prevent all power failures in the 380 kV and 220 kV grids.
The national high-voltage grid must be sufficiently reliable, both now and in the future. In the Quality and capacity plan we give (provisional) answers to such questions as: Is it necessary to upgrade or expand the transmission grid in the coming years? What (European) developments would or would not make this necessary? Such developments could include:
- Increase in use of solar and wind energy;
- Increase in demand for cheap imported electricity;
- Increase in number of production plants;
- Increase in number of air-conditioning systems in households.
Content of the plan
The Quality and capacity plan describes TenneT's long-term view of the development of the Dutch transmission grid in a European context. Using three scenarios of the future, we outline the impact that various developments have on the high-voltage grid.
The Quality and capacity plan also sets out the results of an international market survey into the development of electricity consumption and production. Modelling techniques were used to select three national transmission scenarios. These form the basis for various analyses of the transmission grid.
The plan also describes TenneT's quality management system. What quality indicators and targets does TenneT use? TenneT’s plans for the maintenance and replacement of transmission grid elements are based on these indicators and targets.
Finally, the plan contains a grid analysis with a description of bottlenecks in the national high-voltage grid (including connecting points to regional and foreign grids). For each bottleneck, we indicate which measure we intend to take or have already taken.
The final part of the Quality and Capacity Plan 2006-2012 was a market consultation organised by TenneT TSO B.V. View the consultation results.
