Quality and Capacity Plan 2008-2014 (I)
19-02-2008
Under the Electricity Act, TenneT is required to draw up a Quality and Capacity Plan every two years. In its Quality and Capacity Plan for the 2008-2014 period, TenneT has described the demand for transmission capacity on the national transmission grid. The plan contains estimates of the required transmission capacity in the coming years and describes possible bottlenecks in the national transmission grid.
Central theme: strong growth in production capacity
The central theme of the 2008-2014 Quality and Capacity Plan is the sharp increase in the number of plans for the construction of new production capacity. Before the Electricity Act 1998 entered into force, the planning for both the high-voltage grid and new plants was centrally controlled and integrated. Electricity producers are now free to decide where and when to invest. In recent years this has resulted in a large number of initiatives for the construction of new plants.
Internationalisation of the electricity market
Besides the above-mentioned information, the 2008-2014 Quality and Capacity Plan also discusses a topical issue within the power industry. This edition of the report focuses on the growing vulnerability of the electricity supply system due to the increasing interconnectedness of electricity transmission grids and the internationalisation of the electricity market.
