The transmission grid in the Netherlands consists of all grids with a voltage level of 50 kV up to 380 kV. These transmission grids are currently operated by five different parties – an inefficient way of going about things.
It would be much more efficient if a single organisation was charged with the day‑to‑day maintenance and management of the transmission grids. This would translate into lower transmission costs and benefit the Dutch market. Transmission grid failure invariably results in substantial damage. This also argues in favour of control by a single command structure in case of emergencies.
