Particulate matter and high-voltage lines
01-05-2009
There is considerable public disquiet about the possible health effects of particulate matter. The concern stems mainly from industry and traffic in the residential environment, but high-voltage lines are sometimes also mentioned. First of all, these lines do not cause particulate matter. However, it has been suggested that particulate matter present in the air gets electrically charged by an aboveground high-voltage line, with negative health effects. So what does this mean for those in the vicinity? What are the consequences? How are the authorities and TenneT addressing the issue?
