15-06-2002 As a consequence of the energy crisis in the state of California, a political and social debate has been started in Europe as to how to guarantee the reliability of electricity supply in the developing, liberalised electricity market. The debate has not yet been concluded, but everyone is agreed on one point: even in the fully liberalised electricity market, security of the electricity supply must continue to be guaranteed, now and in the future. Netherlands and European energy policy, the pre-conditions for security of supply and market and European developments are being examined.
