Services in support of the energy market
TenneT is charged with a number of tasks that derive from its role as a Transmission System Operator (TSO). These tasks include supporting the energy market and ensuring that it operates smoothly. Tasks of this type have been delegated to three TenneT subsidiaries:
TSO Auction B.V.
TenneT operates two interconnections with Belgium and three with Germany. These links are known as cross border connections. Via these connections, TenneT exports and imports electricity. TSO Auction B.V. is responsible for auctioning off the available daily, monthly and annual capacity on the five cross border connections and is established in the spring of 2000.

CertiQ B.V.
Consumers cannot tell how electricity coming out of a wall socket has been produced. The government has therefore introduced production certificates, to enable a distinction to be made between 'standard' electricity and electricity generated in an environmentally friendly manner ('green' electricity). These certificates constitute a 'guarantee of origin' and serve as proof that the electricity was produced in an environmentally sound manner. CertiQ is the organisation that manages the certification system and is the successor of GCB, which issued 'green certificates' for sustainable electricity. GCB was established as a TenneT subsidiary on 1 July 2001. Its name was changed to CertiQ on 1 July 2003 in connection with an expansion of its activities.
