Connection procedure
TenneT manages the Dutch high-voltage grid from 110kV which has more than 100 connections. According to the law, a connection is one or more links between an immovable property and the grid, or two or more links between grids of different voltage.
A connection consists of a transformer and a substation bay. Most of our connections are with grids of a lower voltage level. We provide the connections with the high-voltage grid, take care of maintenance and remedy any faults. The DTe lays down the conditions under which we establish the connections with the high-voltage grid. Maintenance is carried out approximately three weeks a year, and on average we remedy a fault once a year.
In principle, anyone can apply to TenneT for a connection, and TenneT is obliged to accept every application. However, connection of an ‘immovable property’ to the extra-high-voltage grid (at 380 or 220kV) or the high-voltage grid (110 or 150 kV) is only of interest for very heavy consumers. Currently, there are only two consumers (Kollo silicon carbide b.v. and Aluminium Delfzijl bv in Groningen), four producers and five other grid companies with a connection to the extra-high-voltage grid. About seventy consumers, two producers, five other grid companies with a connection to the high-voltage grid. The materialization of the connection must be comitted to paper by TenneT and the applier of the connection in an agreement of the connection. It is not possible to derive a right from an application to connection unless the agreement of the connection have been signed by both parties.
