TenneT manages hundreds of kilometres of high‑voltage lines and cables and dozens of substations. Our employees work hard to safeguard the continuity of the electricity supply in the Netherlands – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This page provides some key figures about TenneT and its activities.
Overview of technical data for 2008
In 2008 TenneT was responsible for:
- 290 kilometres of 450 kV high-voltage cable
- 2,032 kilometres of 380 kV high-voltage lines and cables
- 653 kilometres of 220 kV high-voltage lines and cables
532 kilometres of 150 kV high-voltage lines and cables
- 52 substations
- 194 new substations to manage
- 24,967 gigawatt-hours of imported energy
- 9,116 gigawatt-hours of exported energy
Peak load in 2008
When people all over the Netherlands turn up their heating and switch on all the lights, a large amount of electricity is consumed. This so‑called 'peak load moment' usually occurs in December. Peaks in electricity consumption can also be observed during important sports events, for instance at half‑time during football matches. In 2007 the peak load moment occurred on:
