For several years now, private consumers and businesses have been able to choose where they purchase their energy. This is the result of the liberalisation of the energy market. TenneT Holding B.V. wants to support the free energy market and help it to function smoothly. TenneT carries out a number of non‑regulated tasks in order to achieve this goal. Examples include the purchase and sale of energy and operation of the necessary infrastructure.

Why TenneT?

Energy producers and suppliers are commercial companies with a profit motive. TenneT is the only independent party active on the free energy market. It therefore makes sense for TenneT, as an impartial player, to encourage free market operation and the development of sustainable energy. In this context, TenneT offers various services that have been delegated to a number of subsidiaries:
