TenneT Holding B.V.
TenneT Holding B.V. was established to achieve a transparent segregation of the regulated (statutory) duties and the non-regulated activities. The State of the Netherlands (the Ministry of Finance, to be precise) holds all the shares in TenneT Holding B.V.
Regulated activities are statutory tasks related to managing the transmission grid in the Netherlands and Germany and maintaining the required balance between supply and demand in the Dutch and German electricity grid. TenneT TSO B.V. carries out TenneT's regulated duties in the Netherlands and has delegated a number of these duties to its subsidiaries such as Transportnet Zuid-Holland and CertiQ B.V. In Germany, TenneT TSO GmbH and TenneT Offshore GmbH carry out the regulated duties.
TenneT's non-regulated activities in the Netherlands have been delegated to several subsidiaries which resort directly under TenneT Holding B.V. They are: APX Group, New Values B.V., NLink International B.V. and NOVEC B.V. The organisation chart provides a clear overview of the organisational structure of TenneT Holding B.V.
The future
The energy market is in full swing both nationally and internationally. In the Netherlands, political debates on energy policy regularly underline the importance of having an independent administrator of the national transmission grid. This administrator plays a major role in ensuring that the electricity market functions properly and in safeguarding the public interest in this context. With a view to the security and efficiency of supply, the formation of a single national transmission grid is advisable. Therefore, TenneT aims to secure ownership of all transmission grids in the Netherlands during the coming years.
The energy market is developing at the European level. Expansion of the electricity market will ensure better market operation and increased competition. This will result in good pricing and enhance the security of supply. TenneT aims to keep playing a major role in the expanding international market and by joining forces with other European countries we can boost our service provision. Our plans to improve the energy infrastructure at the European level started to be realised in 2004 with the launch of the NorNed project, which entails the construction of a high-voltage interconnection between the Netherlands and Norway. After completing this subsea cable link, TenneT started to construct a subsea cable link to Great Britain and is now conducting a feasibility study into the possibility of a cable link to Denmark.
TenneT is constantly investing in the transmission grid. In 2004 we initiated the Randstad 380 kV-project, aimed at enhancing our energy infrastructure for the future and safeguarding the security of supply in the short as well as the long term. But this enhancing will also take place in the North-West and South-West of the Netherlands.
