Mr Jan Vugts (1942) joined TenneT’s Supervisory Board on 17 July 2001. He is a member of TenneT’s Audit Committee. Mr Vugts’ current term of office ends on 17 July 2009.

Career

Having joined the publishing company De Gelderlander in 1968 as Secretary to the Board, Mr Vugts was appointed Director in 1972 and Managing Director in 1977. In 1985, he switched to Gelders‑Utrechtse Spaarbank, a savings bank, where he had been appointed Director. This was followed in 1988 by his appointment as President of the Executive Board of SNS Bank and, in 1994, of SNS Group. After the 1997 merger of SNS and insurance company Reaal, Mr Vugts continued to chair the Executive Board of SNS Reaal Group until October 2000.

Mr Vugts has also had seats on the Board of the Netherlands Bankers’ Association, the Board of Administration of the World Savings Bank Group, the Board of Administration of the European Savings Bank Group, the Board of the European Group of Financial Institutions, the Board of Management of VNO‑NCW (Confederation of Netherlands Industries and Employers) and the Supervisory Board of Stienstra Holding, and has presided over the Supervisory Board of the Canisius‑Wilhelmina Hospital. Furthermore, Mr Vugts has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DKZET Offset Rotation B.V. and Mercachem B.V.
