Career

Having graduated as a chemical engineer, Mr Selman embarked upon his career in 1962 by joining DSM, where he subsequently held a range of positions including that of Project Engineer at Stamicarbon, Managing Director of Nypro UK and Business Manager for Organic Products of the Chemical Products Division. He was appointed to the Board of Management of DSM N.V. in 1979, and retired on 1 January 1998. 

In addition to the above positions, Mr Selman has chaired the Board of Management of the Association of the Netherlands Chemical Industry, has held seats on the Supervisory Boards of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie, Koninklijke Pakhoed N.V. and the Association of Electricity Producing Companies (SEP), and has chaired the Supervisory Boards of Urenco Ltd. and Ultra‑Centrifuge Nederland N.V. He has also been a member of the Science and Technology Policy Advisory Council and the Netherlands Forum for Technology and Science.
