Legal structure

Under the Electricity Act of 1998, the administrator of the national transmission grid is obliged to adopt the statutory two tier (‘structure’) regime in full. Among other things, this means that the Board of Management must submit certain decisions specified in the Act to the Supervisory Board for approval, and must do so in advance.

Group structure

TenneT has adapted its group structure with a view to separating its regulated, statutory tasks from its non-regulated activities. The reason for this restructuring is that under the Electricity Act of 1998 the administrator of the national high-voltage grid is not allowed to conduct any activities of a competitive nature. TenneT's group companies may not perform any activities that are opposed to the interests of the national high-voltage grid.

All shares in TenneT Holding B.V., and therefore indirectly in TenneT TSO B.V., are held by the State of the Netherlands.
