Agreement reached on relocation of Bleiswijk substation
09-07-2008
TenneT, the Dutch Transmission System Operator, has concluded an agreement with the municipal authorities of Zoetermeer and Lansingerland concerning the relocation of Bleiswijk substation. In 2010, this switching and transformer substation will be moved from the north to the south side of the A12 motorway. Because the substation is currently located in the centre of the area designated as the future site of the Bleizo transport hub by the municipal authorities of Zoetermeer and Lansingerland, it will have to be moved to a location near Hoefweg-Zuid.
Bleiswijk high-voltage substation is set to become the main link between the northern and southern ring of the new 380-kV line serving the Randstad region. TenneT is constructing this line in close collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment. Bleiswijk substation will have to be expanded considerably before the new line can be completed. The relevant planning procedures have now reached the stage where a decision will be taken soon. TenneT is planning to start construction work on the new substation in the autumn of this year.
Bleizo will be the name of the new Netherlands Railways station on the line between Utrecht and The Hague. The Bleizo project comprises the construction of a new railway station and the development of the surrounding area into a high-quality transport hub. The area in question is located on both sides of the A12 motorway, on the south-east side of Zoetermeer and the north side of Lansingerland. In January 2008, the two municipalities decided to develop Bleizo railway station and the surrounding area as a joint project. The area’s landscape is currently quite ‘cluttered’, but the new public transport hub will ensure improved accessibility, more jobs and a park-like appearance for the area.
