New TenneT Quality & Capacity Document now online
30-01-2012
TenneT's new Quality & Capacity Document has been posted online. In this national grid development plan, the electricity transmission operator reports on the replacement investments and other measures it has taken to assure the quality of its transmission service. The grid investments that may be needed in the coming period are determined on the basis of various scenarios.
TenneT is required to draw up a national grid development plan every two years and submit it to the regulator. In order to assess the grid's future development, the plan looks ahead to possible developments in the energy market and identifies their potential impact on the Dutch high-voltage grid based on various scenarios. For this purpose, estimates were produced of the total demand for transmission capacity in the 2012-2021 period. The Quality & Capacity Document also describes the anticipated capacity problems and the solutions that may need to be implemented to meet the future demand for transmission capacity.
International data
For the first time, the Quality & Capacity Document was drawn up using international scenarios for a European grid development plan agreed on by ENTSO-E (a European alliance of 41 TSOs from 34 countries). These data are important in light of the increasingly international nature of today's energy market, and offer a comprehensive picture of the development of the entire European transmission grid.
As in the previous edition, this new Quality & Capacity Document shows that there are still many plans to construct new production capacity in the Netherlands. In order to safeguard the future security of supply, TenneT is already making significant investments in four new 380 kV connections and over 300 smaller projects that are currently in the preparation or execution stage.
