Exceptional transport of transformer to Vierverlaten substation
09-08-2010
On the morning of Tuesday 10 August, a massive transformer weighing 280 tonnes will be transported to the TenneT substation at Vierverlaten near the city of Groningen.
The transformer will be hoisted from a cargo ship currently located at Aduarderdiepsterweg and loaded onto a special trailer. It will then be transported by road to the TenneT switching and transformer substation at Vierverlaten, where it will replace an old transformer. The new transformer – with greater capacity than the old one – will be installed at its final location in the high‑voltage substation on Wednesday 11 August.
The transformer was manufactured in Nijmegen and previously transported by ship to Vierverlaten. Approx. 1,000 square metres of steel planking has been laid on the road to protect the road surface against the transformer’s massive weight during the final stage of the operation.
