TenneT working on emergency power line between Doetinchem and Ulft

14-07-2010 Early in the evening of Wednesday 14 July, a loss of power occurred at two 150 kV high‑voltage substations in Ulft and Dale in the east of the Netherlands. This resulted in a blackout throughout an as yet unknown area. The loss of capacity amounted to 57 megawatts in total. At 7:40 p.m., the electricity supply was restored and voltage was restored at both substations. The loss of power at the two substations was related to the failure of a high‑voltage connection between Doetinchem and Ulft, where extremely strong winds blew down five electricity pylons on Wednesday evening. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries.

TenneT is making every effort to repair the high‑voltage line as quickly as possible. We began reinforcing the remaining pylons on Wednesday evening, and work will continue throughout today. Upon completion of this job we will immediately start constructing an emergency power line. To facilitate the repair work, the high‑voltage line between Doetinchem and Ulft is currently not live. The electricity is being diverted via Winterswijk.
