TenneT/transpower issue first joint international call for tenders
21-06-2010
Today, TenneT/transpower are issuing their first joint European call for tenders. The tender concerns the delivery of five transformers, with an option to supply several additional transformers. With this first joint procurement operation, the company is aiming to achieve a desired synergy effect.
The five transformers will be installed in the Netherlands as well as Germany. Two 400 kV (300 MVA) transformers are intended for the Redwitz and Eltmann highvoltage substations in northern Bavaria (Germany), approx. 80 km from Bayreuth. These will help accommodate the increase in transmission capacity between the German federal states of Thuringia and Bavaria. The three remaining 380 kV / 350 MVA transformers will be installed at Ens substation in the Noordoostpolder region of the Netherlands. Delivery of the German transformers is scheduled for the winter of 2011/2012, while the Dutch transformers will be delivered in the autumn of 2012. As a result of the joint procurement of transformers, the company expects to be able to undertake projects at a lower cost.
Strengthening the Dutch and German electricity grids is in line with TenneT’s overall strategy. The company plans to take a leading role in Europe over the coming years, and continue developing an effectively functioning electricity market. TenneT expects to invest a total sum of approx. 6 billion euro in the Netherlands and Germany over the next five to seven years.
The new company has 1700 employees, nine offices and operates approx. 20,000 kilometres of highvoltage connections, making it a leading crossborder Transmission System Operator in Europe. The new combination of TenneT and transpower will deliver a range of benefits, including price equalisation, improved grid balancing, greater insight into grid situations, and better possibilities for sustainable energy development in both countries.
