New senior management structure for TenneT Holding BV


08-06-2010 An expanded Board of Management will be responsible for strategic and organisational policy at TenneT Holding B.V. The Supervisory Board has appointed Martin Fuchs as TenneT’s fourth ‘statutory director’. Mr Fuchs will take up his position with effect from 4 June 2010. Next to this appointment, Christof Schulte wilI be a new member of the Borad. It was considered necessary to enlarge the Board of Management in order to cope with the company’s recent growth and the increase in international activities in Germany. The appointment has been approved by TenneT’s sole shareholder, the Dutch Ministry of Finance.

The new senior management structure is characterised by a strong focus on international energy market developments, including those in the German market. In order to pursue this strategy effectively, the company has decided to divide responsibilities within the Board of Management as follows:

  • Lex Hartman
  • Christof Schulte   

At the same time the senior management structure of transpower GmbH is adjusted. Lex Hartman and Ben Voorhorst are new members in the Board of transpower, to strengthen the international focus of this Board.

Company growth
TenneT’s takeover of the German high‑voltage grid operator transpower was officially completed on 25 February 2010, with TenneT acquiring ownership with retroactive effect from 1 January 2010. Integrating the two transmission grids will allow TenneT to take a leading role in Europe over the coming years, and to continue developing an effectively functioning electricity market. TenneT expects to invest a total sum of approx. 6 billion euro in the Netherlands and Germany over the next five to seven years.

CVs of Board of Management members

J.M. Kroon MBA
Mel Kroon (b. 1957) has served as TenneT’s President and Chief Executive Officer since 1 January 2002. From 1997 to 1999, he held the position of Managing Director of Hooge Huys Verzekeringen N.V., part of the Utrecht‑based insurance group SNS Reaal Verzekeringen, where he was Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board from 1999 to 2002. Mr Kroon began his career at Fokker Aircraft N.V.

M. Fuchs 
From 1980 to 2000, Martin Fuchs (b. 1953) held several positions at Bayernwerk AG. He was appointed as Managing Director of E.ON Netz GmbH in 2000. At transpower stromübertragungs gmbh, he is responsible for Grid Management and Technology. Mr Fuchs has been a member of the Board of Directors of ENTSO‑E (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) since December 2008.

B.G.M. Voorhorst MBA 
Ben Voorhorst (b. 1959) has served as TenneT’s Chief Operating Officer since 1 November 2006. He joined SEP (TenneT’s predecessor) in 1995 as Head of Information Provision and Automation. Mr Voorhorst previously worked for thirteen years in the software industry in various management positions.

W.A. Keus RA
Willem Keus (b. 1954) joined TenneT in 2008. He has gained extensive experience in the energy sector, having served as Chief Financial Officer at Delta N.V. since 2002. He previously held the post of Director of Corporate Control at Essent. Mr Keus began his career in the electricity sector at PNEM/MEGA, having previously worked at Unilever.

A.A. Hartman (CDO)
Lex Hartman (b. 1956) has served as TenneT’s Director of Corporate Development since 2008, having previously worked in a number of other management positions at TenneT. Mr Hartman also chaired the NorNed Steering Committee and serves as a board member of BritNed. He previously worked as a lawyer and a lecturer in management and marketing.

C. Schulte
Christof Schulte (b. 1960) has held several management positions at E.ON since 1996, most recently as a member of the Board of Directors of E.ON Benelux. Mr Schulte was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of E.ON Netz GmbH on 1 August 2007.
