Preparations for repair of NorNed cable well underway

10-02-2010 TenneT is hard at work on the preparations for repair of the NorNed cable. The cable link has been out of operation since Friday 29 January, when a fault occurred approx. 63 kilometres off the Dutch coast.

The exact location of the fault is currently being determined, so that repairs can be carried out as soon as possible. At the same time, the exact cause is also being investigated. TenneT has put together a dedicated project team which is fully focused on putting the cable link between Norway and the Netherlands back into operation as soon as possible. Among other measures, TenneT has several kilometres of reserve cable in stock to ensure that repairs can be completed as quickly as possible.

If you would you like to be informed about all developments related to the repair of the NorNed cable, then subscribe to TenneT’s RSS feed (http://www.tennet.org/rssfeed/storingfeed.aspx) to receive the latest news and regular progress updates.

NorNed is a joint venture between TenneT, the electricity transmission operator of the Netherlands, and its Norwegian counterpart Statnett. TenneT and Statnett use the 580 km long cable to transmit electricity from Norway to the Netherlands and vice versa. The cable link went into service in May 2008.
