Route and substations

BoorThe Randstad380 connection will run from the Maasvlakte substation via the substations in Westerlee, Wateringen, Bleiswijk, Beverwijk and Oostzaan to Diemen substation. Work will start in the south of the Randstad on the southern ring. In conjunction with the work there we must build two new transformer substations at Wateringen and Westerlee. The Bleiswijk transformer substation is already connected to the 380 kV substation at Krimpen aan den IJssel. This will create a new 380 kV ring, enabling us to guarantee the security of supply to this important area in the coming decades. The northern line between Bleiswijk and Beverwijk will follow a short time later. Some existing substations will be adapted here to make them suitable for a voltage level of 380 kV. See map.

Above ground or below ground

For various reasons 380 kV high voltage grids are constructed above ground, unless a special bottleneck exists in the grid. One such bottleneck is the intersection with the busy Nieuwe Waterweg canal. At this location an above ground line will not provide the clearance required by vessels.
