Projects

TenneT is continually working to improve the high-voltage grid. After all, we can only (continue to) guarantee a reliable supply of electricity if we have the best possible infrastructure at our disposal. In addition, TenneT wants the transmission grid to meet the needs of the energy market and fit in with people's living environment. We are carrying out large-scale and small-scale projects in order to improve and expand our infrastructure. A few important ones are:

Randstad380

TenneT is working on an expansion of the high-voltage grid in the Randstad. The aim of this so-called 'Randstad380' project is to safeguard the future security of supply in the west of the Netherlands. We are constructing a new line from Bleiswijk to Beverwijk. At Beverwijk, we will construct an interconnection with the existing Oostzaan-Diemen section. This will result in two ring-shaped transmission grids, one in the southern and one in the northern part of the Randstad region.

Haaksbergen

As most people know, Haaksbergen municipality has been affected by several power failures over the past years. A number of disruptions in the nearby high-voltage grid resulted in the Haaksbergen and Eibergen substations being disconnected for a long time. In connection with these events, we decided to conduct a study into the possibilities for expanding the high-voltage grid in the region concerned.

Congestion management

TenneT is currently working at a congestion management system. As a result, it will be possible to connect new energy producers to the grid in spite of capacity limitations. Our website provides you with all the information you need on the new system.

Wintrack

TenneT wants to promote innovation in the field of energy transmission. We are always on the lookout for social and technical innovations that we can use. A good example is Wintrack, a concept for high-voltage lines and pylons with smaller magnetic fields.

NorNed

The NorNed cable is a high-voltage cable on the seabed that will create a link between Norway and the Netherlands. The cable will allow TenneT to import sustainably generated electricity from Norway. In turn, Norway can enhance its security of supply by importing electricity produced in the Netherlands.

BritNed

BritNed is a joint venture between TenneT subsidiary NLink and a subsidiary of National Grid Transco (UK). BritNed is currently investigating the possibilities of the exploitation of an undersea cable link between the Netherlands and the UK.

New high-voltage substation at Borssele

TenneT, the administrator of the national high-voltage grid, is constructing a new high voltage substation at Borssele, in the southwest of the Netherlands. The new substation is necessary to handle the increase in electricity imports and exports to and from Belgium. The substation will also ensure that Delta Energy’s new Sloecentrale power plant can be connected to the national high-voltage grid.
