TenneT creates first cross border European transmission grid with acquisition of German grid operator transpower

10-11-2009 Today TenneT announced the acquisition of the German high‑voltage grid operator transpower stromübertragungs GmbH (part of E.ON AG). TenneT will become the owner of transpower with effect from 1 January 2010. The agreed enterprice value of transpower  will be EUR 885 million.

TenneT’s takeover of transpower is a major step forward in developing a truly European electricity market. Integrating the two transmission grids will allow us to take a leading role in Europe, and continue developing an effectively functioning electricity market.

The new combination will deliver a range of benefits, including price equalization, improved grid balancing, greater insight into grid situations, and better possibilities for sustainable development in both countries. The takeover has the approval of TenneT’s sole shareholder, the State of the Netherlands, represented by the Dutch Minister of Finance, and is supported by the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs.
