Frequently Asked Questions – Connections
An overview of frequently asked questions about electricity connections is provided below.
TenneT has divided the Dutch electricity grid into several regions, with each region served by a Customer Relations Manager. Your Customer Relations Manager looks after your interests and is your partner within the TenneT organisation. Contact details for your Customer Relations Manager can be found on the Contact page.
The transfer of connections is a purely administrative process. There will be no physical changes to your electricity supply. The transfer of your connection will not affect the continuity of your business.
TenneT manages the Dutch national transmission grid and the connections to the grid. The Electricity Act of 1998 defines a connection as one or more links of an ‘immovable property’ with the grid, or two or more links between grids of different voltages.
A connection consists of a ‘break’ (the grid entry point), the connection itself and one or more safety devices. In the case of most of our connections, the voltage level of the connected party’s installation is lower than the voltage level of the grid to which that party is connected. TenneT provides the connections with the transmission grid, takes care of maintenance and resolves any faults. In the so-called Technical Codes and in the Tariff Code, the Office of Energy Regulation has defined the technical conditions under which TenneT establishes connections with the high-voltage grid.
The Position Paper on Connection Policy provides all the information you need on TenneT’s connection policy.
TenneT has published a connection procedure detailing this matter.
