More room on the grid thanks to congestion management
Electricity producers are eyeing several regions in the Netherlands where circumstances favour the establishment of new small- and large-scale power-generating units. In the near future, a situation will arise whereby electricity supplies to the grid in these regions will exceed the grid’s transmission capacity. This may result in an ‘accumulation’ of electricity, leading to congestion on the grid.
TenneT and the regional grid operators will base the proposed congestion management system on the operation of market forces in the energy sector. As a result, it will be possible to connect new energy producers to the grid in spite of capacity limitations. This website provides you with all the information you need on the new system.
